If you do not pay for a session by 10 minutes before without alternative arrangements, the session will be cancelled and you may not be able to book another session without confirmed payment.
Feel free to reach out with any questions or if you'd like alternate pricing/scheduling arrangements!
I approach tutoring with my years of experience with the University of Maine Writing Center, where I was encouraged to develop a personal tutoring praxis from our Writing Center's philosophical scaffolding. I align myself most with Christina Murphy and Steve Sherwood's principles from The St. Martin's Sourcebook for Writing Tutors. According to Murphy and Sherwood, tutoring is:
Contextual
Collaborative
Interpersonal
Individualized
In embracing these facets of tutoring, I approach each session and client with provisionalism.
Provisionalism: where "the tutor acts 'as an audience member,' and [their] 'phrasing suggests that [their] advice ‘may be the case,’ displaying [their] uncertainty with specific subject matter" (Doucette).
As a tutor, provisionalism to me is an embracing of the reciprocal learning process between both tutor and tutee and the asking of open-ended questions over broad assumption. Often, this means being honest and admitting when we don't know the answers.
Ultimately, I aim to inspire and amplify writers' diverse and distinct voices. Writing is a vital communicative tool, and learning writing skills can allow for the expression of ideas and stories in new ways. We each have stories, lessons, and ideas to share, and nobody else can share our ideas as we can.
