Artist Statement

Influenced by personal experience with chronic and invisible illness, my current work seeks to represent and hypervisualize facets of medical trauma. In Cost of Living, Trace, and Autonomous Autopsy, I explore the tensions between patient and medical field, subject and document, and the physical body and lived experience by manipulating and appropriating my own medical documents into a variety of media, such as photopoetry, prose, and hand-stamped textiles. What happens in the transformation from patient to artist? And how are static medical documents and images transformed by artistic reflection and processing?
